What does the role involve?

This is a Fixed Term contract for 2 years and can be based in either our Birmingham or Cambridge offices.

Mills & Reeve has a strong belief that appropriate and innovative use of IT can significantly contribute to the success of the firm. In recognition of this, the firm's investment in its IT systems is considerable. The firm's in-house development team's primary role is to help ensure that the return on this investment is maximised by delivering bespoke IT solutions to business requirements.

This role will focus on a PMS replacement project which will see dramatic change to the firm's application layer. We're look to greatly enhance the users system touch points and improve efficiency throughout the whole experience. We are building this on a stack comprising of major 3rd party applications (Thompson Reuters 3E and MatterSphere). The development work will be done in line with the firm's information architecture and in particular will include integration with a variety of the firm's other information systems. This is your opportunity to be part of a big IT transformation project with plenty of opportunity to develop your skills.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle design, development and ongoing maintenance and support of complex workflow based applications. This will include developing, testing and maintaining program code relating to the workflow applications.
  • Working closely with other members of the IT department (including development, core business systems, support and training teams) and with third party software suppliers.
  • In conjunction with the core business team, liaising with stakeholders to determine functional requirements for workflow applications
  • Providing second line support for applications as and when required.
  • Attending any meetings or training sessions as required.
  • Carrying out any further duties as required by the IT Director/IT Development Manager or Workflow Applications Architect.

What experience is required?

  • Substantial experience of performing a similar role in a comparable environment.
  • Demonstrable C# development experience
  • Demonstrable MS SQL Server experience
  • A good understanding of system architecture and its influence on scalability, reliability and maintainability.
