Are you….?

Are you a bright and energetic individual with a creative edge, who is keen to learn and driven by success?
We’re looking for someone who is hardworking and full of enthusiasm. The ideal candidate will be willing to learn and step that extra mile in order to achieve success. It will be a creative marketing based role, carrying out various different daily tasks to support 3 popular magazines and publications.

What will you be working on?
The Friday-Ad was the first weekly publication in the UK, back in the 70’s, which enabled people to buy and sell items with each other locally. To this day, we still print over 350,000 copies of this paper every single Friday and thousands call us to place their adverts for cars, beds & everything inbetween. The Friday - Ad also entertains our readers with local news, reviews, stories and opinions, and it will be your job to make sure these are alluring and engaging for our readers.

You will also be responsible for our equine publication Horsemart, designed for horse lovers and Boat Trader magazine for boating and sailing enthusiasts. Both magazines are leading in their marketplace and can be found in popular stores such as WHSmith. It isn’t necessary for the candidate to come from either an equine or boating background, as long as you can adapt easily to the readers and have an intuitive approach that’s all that’s desired.

What will some of your day to day responsibilities be?

  • Ensure that each week there is original and engaging content in our weekly paper & magazines

  • Ensuring that the magazines and weekly paper looks smart and is enjoyable to read

  • Work closely with the sales reps and business services to create features which are selling opportunities, eg ‘Our favourite tradesmen in the South East’. Create the designs, ensure sales are selling the spots and coordinate them being printed.

  • Lead Generation - Identifying pools of potential customers for the sales team to help gain more sales, eg tradesmen in certain parts of the UK

  • Report each month on the success of your initiatives. Eg ‘Last month I added a ‘summer-time special’ feature and it generated £10,000 in new business’

  • Identifying locals partners to help promote our publications

  • Organise contra deals, competitions, reviews etc. For example, speak with a restaurant, ask them for a £200 voucher and offer this as a prize in our magazine, in exchange the restaurant get lots of advertising through us.

What do we expect you to have?

  • A passion to learn and pick up new things

  • A creative mind and an eye for what looks good

  • A confident personality and the ability to engage with lots of different people with ease

  • Ability to juggle lots of tasks at once

  • Strong writing and proofreading skills

What would be an added bonus (but certainly not essential)?

  • Any knowledge of horses or boats

  • Previous writing or magazine experience

  • Marketing knowledge (although this can be taught)

What would success look like in 3 months time?

  • Your team and the sales team love you, they see your vision and they listen to you

  • You are respectful of the targets the sales teams have and are helping them achieve these targets through your marketing efforts

  • You have a portfolio of super strong and smart looking magazines and papers under your belt, that contain a real mixture of local news, competitions, features, advice etc.

  • You are regularly checking the ways in which our competitors and brands we aspire to be like are trying to gain extra readership and revenue and draw lots of inspiration from this

Why Friday Media Group?

  • Part of a large media company with over 70 different brands and offices worldwide

  • 25 days paid holiday on top of bank holidays

  • Bonus potential after 3 months

  • Great working environment

  • Exclusive use of work flats in Tenby and Villa in Spain

  • Great career opportunities - we recognise and reward hard work

  • You will be entitled to staff discount of 20% on personal purchases from our print works and on personal advertising after a qualifying period of 3 months employment.

  • Invitations to industry seminars and conferences

  • Company pension scheme - details will be included in your starter pack

  • Use of our company benefit scheme- Perkbox.com, including discounts to many high street shops, reduced rate cinema tickets and free mobile phone insurance.

Salary - Up to £20k
