As the Data Analyst for a major technology infrastructure business, you will be part of a team analysts, reporting to a Senior Analysis Manager, working in support of the delivery of operational analytics, visualisation and reporting services to the business.
This is a B2B based position, the company provides services to other telecoms and technology businesses across the UK. They're one of the largest players in this market, with a similarly large-scale workforce and customer base.
The business is embarking of a programme of investment into their data and analytics divisions, looking to hire at all levels as they look to raise the profile of data within the business. This is where you come in…
As a Data Analyst, you will be working on a variety of projects dealing with things like trend and pattern analysis, deep-dive analysis to identify the where, why and how within the data, and translating that into meaningful insight which will help the business in its decision making.
This will be a hands-on role, coding in SQL for the bulk of the analysis piece, pulling data out of the centralised warehouse, doing joins and splits, checking the data for faults or anomalies, putting in the right fixes before carrying out the analysis itself. From there you may get involved in some data visualisation pieces, making it as engaging as possible and simple to understand for your intended audience of stakeholders (working with Qlikview or Tableau) and potentially reporting too, should there be any ad-hoc or even regular reporting needs (using Oracle Business Intelligence).
Initially the business and stalkeholders need to be taken on a bit of a journey, switching on to what good quality data insights can do for them. This will mean lots of adhoc analysis projects. However it's the intention of the business to move into more strategic and advanced analysis with things like forecasting, predictive modelling, MVT and optimisation analysis techniques. So if this is something you're keen on learning, this could be a great opportunity to do just that.
Projects will be quite wide ranging, and it's unlikely you will find this role becoming a monotony because it offers variety between analysis, reporting and data visualisation too.
This is a really exciting opportunity for someone who's driven, motivated and keen to go into a business which is by far the finished article, but is putting the budget, manpower and ambition behind achieving this step-change to data centricity. So there's plenty of quick-wins to be had, along with the longer term, more complex projects to deliver too which look good on anyone's CV.
