Head of Marketing

Job purpose:
To lead the marketing strategy and manage the execution of campaigns to achieve attendee targets, delegate revenue and sponsorship revenue for a portfolio of public sector events.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Marketing Strategy - Contribute to portfolio planning and growth strategy for all events; lead the development of new marketing initiatives; constantly review and develop ways to improve marketing channel performance.
  • Management Team - Work collaboratively with the management team across programme, sales and operations; contribute to a highly effective and high-performance team.
  • Marketing Team Leader - Lead a team of Marketing Managers and Delegate Acquisition executives; regular communication on vision and priorities; drive high-performance.
  • Targets and Scheduling - Set and manage weekly and event targets, identify shortfalls and prioritise events to maximise revenue, consistently meet launch and campaign deadlines.
  • Analytics and Reporting - Campaign analysis, tracking, yield performance; monitor call rates and ticket sales and respond appropriately; make weekly recommendations to the Marketing Director.
  • Delegate Acquisition Team (DAT) - Manage the day-to-day workflow and responsibilities of a telesales team, with a focus on call volume, pitch, yield and results; motivate and incentivise the team.
  • Website Management - Manage development, design and content of event websites, look for new ways to keep websites up to date and content-rich.
  • Team Resourcing and Development - Recruitment and training of new team members in marketing and DAT; identify training needs and provide regular feedback; performance management as required; recruitment and effective resource planning.
  • Data Improvement - Forward planning on data needs for the portfolio and individual events; identify shortfalls, request builds and purchases to ensure adequate data to achieve targets.
  • Commercial Marketing - Manage sales marketing activity across the team for each event to deliver strong leads for the sponsorship sales team; work with the sales team to develop new ideas to drive better results.

CAMPAIGN MANAGEMENT:

  • Campaign Management - Strategic development of targeted email marketing campaigns which are supported with social media, Adwords and media partnerships.
  • Data Segmentation - Identify target markets and create 'data universe' for each event and separating based on needs and interests.
  • Copy Writing - Using excellent copy writing to communicate each event's USPs and with relevant calls to action to drive delegate acquisition and sponsorship sales leads.
  • Collaborate - With influencers/associations/speaker organisations to form partnerships through 'contra' arrangements that improve product placement and credibility.
  • DAT - Ensure the right data is in place on a daily basis, ensure strong briefs with the relevant Programme Manager, strong pitch and close.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

ESSENTIAL:

  • Ability to translate company strategic objectives into marketing strategies
  • Minimum 5 years experience in an email / digital marketing role, preferably with some B2B events marketing experience
  • A minimum of 2 years people management & performance management experience
  • Experience in recruiting and developing junior staff into top performers.
  • Hands-on experience with email marketing software
  • Effective at data segmentation and audience analysis
  • Experience of working with websites and content management systems
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Experience of SEO, web and social media analytics and content marketing
