Product Development Director (Laser Sintering, Metallurgical) £60 - £70k dependent on experience and capability.

Our client, a Division within a FTSE 250 listed Group, is a well established manufacturing and distribution organisation with its European Head Quarters in Birmingham. The Division continues to exceed its financial targets and has a clear strategy to achieve on-going success.

Position: Technical Director
Location: Birmingham (significant overseas travel).
Salary: Circa £60 - £70k dependent on experience and capability.
Benefits: Company car / allowance, participation in the Senior Management Annual Bonus Plan, Family Health Care, Personal Pension Plan (employer contributions up to 16% of salary), Life Assurance (up to 8 x salary).

ROLE:
As a member of the European Executive, this position reports directly to the European President. The role will lead technical improvements across the European operations with particular emphasis on new product development related to the application of new technologies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Lead the European research and development activities.
b) Provide overall technical leadership to the local teams.
c) Be an integral part of bespoke project teams to implement technological improvements.
d) Proactive involvement in New Product Development.
e) Champion the implementation and maintenance of best practice Health & Safety standards.
f) Active responsibilities in the overall accountabilities of the European Executive.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
a) A comprehensive metallurgical background.
b) Experience of laser sintering.
c) Exposure to powder technology.
d) Comprehensive practical knowledge of technical analytical tools ie. FMEA, SPC, root cause etc.
e) A history of successful research and development activities.
f) A proven ability to cascade best practices across a multi-site environment.
g) Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
h) A degree of commercial awareness.
