Exceptional opportunity for heavyweight category management specialist to take on a challenging senior role with this global player in the personal care market.  In this key role, working with 2 major retail customers, you will use your strong commercial and analytical thinking skills and category knowledge & shopper insights to deliver category solutions and initiatives that drive significant growth and achieve increased customer engagement and collaboration.  This will include proactively engaging consumer marketing, insight, shopper marketing and commercial teams in identifying growth opportunities and feeding these into the wider business process.

Specific responsibilities in this role include:

Developing and executing an on-going customer engagement plan ensuring alignment of Retailer, Category and Brand priorities. 

  • Proactively selling-in the company’s cat-man expertise to establish it as a key partner for category & shopper insights.
  • Identifying commercial opportunities to customer development and consumer brand teams along with recommendations (5Ps) and assisting in delivery where appropriate.
  • Working closely with shopper marketing to identify category & shopper insights & knowledge, integrating these into the business to strengthen category understanding and customer engagement. 
  • Championing the design and implementation of deal planograms across all categories.
  • Working cross functionally to develop and externalise category trade stories for each of the company’s brands to unlock category growth.
  • Assisting in mentoring category managers to strengthen their category insight & engagement capabilities.

Key Skills Checklist

With a robust background in category management or perhaps sales, working with major FMCG or personal care/healthcare brands, you’ll have the ability to hit the ground running to deliver results.  You’ll have a solid grasp of the UK market, with an understanding of major retail and trade channels and will be looking for a challenging new role. In what is a dynamic and busy environment, strong commercial acumen is key with the ability to articulate the case for strategic change, secure agreement and implement solutions.  Key skills include:

  • Proactive and flexible approach, able to work independently and in a team, consistent under pressure, demonstrates drive to implement agreed strategic solutions.
  • Strategic thinking: with the ability to identify strategic issues and opportunities and translate these into agreed strategies, plans and tactics which deliver against customer & business expectations. 
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all organisational levels. 
  • Ability to use a range of data sources (Nielsen & Kantar essential) to connect the dots, identify insights and trends and to leverage this knowledge to develop strategic recommendations for action. 
  • Competent in the use of space planning tools.
