As the Senior Data Science Engineer, you will be the technical lead for the data engineering capability of a Data Science division which sits within one of the UK's biggest employers. This arm of the business leverages the company's considerable data asset made up of principally mobile data which accounts for around 8bn lines of code weekly, as well as consumer data from UK households which is assimilated from IoT devices and services to create powerful and actionable insights leveraged by both the company, as well as 3rd party businesses whom they carry out data science projects for on a consultancy basis.

This role offers something a little unique too; although its key emphasis is to be as the Data Engineering lead, because of the function's make-up, you will be given the opportunity to evolve your role into Data Science projects too, working alongside other Data Scientists on a broad variety of projects, and ultimately being given the opportunity to own your own projects once your skills with things like machine learning (for example) have developed.

THE BUSINESS

This really is a massive brand in the technology, telecoms, mobile and IoT space. The team you will be joining is a consultancy arm which carries out work both on behalf of the business itself, namely supporting its IoT (internet of things) division as well as using the company's considerable data asset to carry out consultancy projects which are massively innovative within the data science space on behalf of third party brands across industry. Company's they work with have included the likes of Google, Virgin, Experian, as well as digital media firms and manufacturing too cross the country.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain cloud data infrastructure: storage, pipelines, analytics platforms
  • Support data scientists to design and handle very large datasets, understanding data processing at scale
  • Deliver analytical solutions, analysing large and complex data sets using multiple technologies (Python, R, SQL, Google Cloud Platform, Hadoop).
  • Understand customer requirements and define tailor made solutions
  • Create and develop data products and implement production tools
  • Clearly and confidently present complex data architectures in a simple and engaging manner
  • Visualise and deliver analytical results in insightful, interesting and interactive ways using various technologies (Qlikview, R, HMTL, Javascript, Tableau, etc)
  • Proactively investigate and discover new techniques, technologies and data sources to enhance the firm's Big Data capabilities

Rate: £52,000 to £62,000 (dependant on experience)

Experience Required:

  • Experience of Big data and distributed platforms.
  • NoSQL, Big data store, Data warehousing.
  • Batch and streaming large-scale data processing (Apache Beam, Apache Spark) and advanced SQL.
  • Python skills ideally, both for general analysis and application in data science (Pandas, Scikit-learn)
  • Micro services, virtual environments, containers, advanced distributed version control system.
  • Visualisation fundamentals and experience (Tableau, D3js, Ggplot2)
  • Previous experience in using advance statistical techniques for developing data solutions
  • Knowledge of data visualisation fundamentals
  • Ability to understand client requirements and translate them into solutions
  • Strong presentation skills - an engaging presentation style that delivers and develops relationships
  • Excellent problem solver with real curiosity and drive.
  • Must have the necessary visas to live and work in the UK - sponsorship cannot be provided.
