SF Group are currently looking for an Senior Internal Communications Officer for our public sector client based in Central Birmingham.

This is an opportunity on a 9 month contract basis that is in place to support the internal communications team to provide guidance and assistance as required. You will take overall responsibility for the intranet and will ensure consistency with all other communication functions. You will also support the team on specific projects such as events organisation.

Day to Day Responsibilities include:

  • To ensure that information is provided to colleagues across the organisation in a timely, accurate and targeted manner
  • To provide guidance and advice to colleagues when an internal communication need is identified and needs acting upon
  • To ensure that the intranet is regarded as a valuable and up-to-date resource
  • To provide support to nominated colleagues on the use of the intranet's content management system (CMS)
  • To keep internal communications under review, considering new ways of getting the message over to colleagues
  • To create and deliver communication plans to support exercises, such as employee surveys, HR, IT and facilities updates
  • To adhere to and demonstrate how to use internal templates and style guides to colleagues across the organisation to ensure consistency and high quality presentations
  • To provide editorial advice and guidance to colleagues to ensure clarity of messaging and adherence to house-style
  • To review PowerPoint presentations prepared by colleagues for internal and external use and to ensure that they adhere to good practice and branding guidelines
  • To assist in, or where appropriate, take responsibility for, the organisation of internal events such as all staff briefings, kitchen catch-ups and employee conferences
  • To collect, collate, analyse and present sometimes complex information in a clear manner
  • To take a solutions-led approach to communication problems or challenges
  • Working with resource manager, to take responsibility for self-development and training needs and to promote and contribute to the development of colleagues to perform with clear direction, accountability and responsibility

The ideal person will be/have:

  • Significant experience of working in internal communications, which includes experience of taking responsibility for the delivery of projects and dealing with colleagues at all levels within the organisation
  • Experience of communicating complex issues to different audiences
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent copy writing skills
  • Excellent information gathering and networking skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of best practice in print and digital communications
  • The ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for the organisation
  • Experience of managing change
  • Ability to prioritise, to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Good team working
