What is the purpose of the role?
This exciting opportunity will get you to provide expert advice and leadership on engagement and communications with Local & Regional Government and pan-regional audiences across London. This will help us to develop our long term, strategic plans for London, ensuring that they reflect the views and requirements of our stakeholders and customers whilst meeting our environmental and regulatory outcomes.
What makes this role unique?
London currently has a population of 8.6 million; you will be joining a brand new team to help plan for London's long term wastewater infrastructure, which by 2100 may have to cope with up to 15 million people. You will be part of a team of 21st century "Joseph Bazalgettes", re-thinking how we deliver a sustainable, resilient wastewater service for the next century.
What will this role involve?
The advisor will:
Provide leadership, expert advice and guidance to the London Long Term Planning Team on stakeholder management to support long term infrastructure planning as well as providing advice on the issues impacting the London boroughs and the GLA.
Identify key external stakeholders or stakeholder groups for major strategic business issues within London by working closely with the London Long Term Planning Lead Build and maintain external relationships with local and GLA audiences on their long term requirements and growth aspirations, working closely with them to understand more about what is driving population growth in their respective areas.
Actively develop opportunities to engage in dialogue with strategic local stakeholders to build Thames Water's visibility and open up the channels for collaboration in developing catchments solutions in close cooperation with the London Long Term Planning Lead.
Establish and maintain internal relationships with the wholesale waste water planning, strategy and operations teams, whilst liaising closely with the central stakeholder engagement team to ensure that the our long term plans for London remain high on their agenda.
Support the London Long Term Planning Lead on setting priorities and in developing a regional long term stakeholder engagement strategy for wholesale wastewater.
What are we looking for?
Do you have a background in Public Affairs, lobbying, communications or similar? Are you customer focused with a strategic perspective? We are looking for an individual with excellent knowledge of local & regional government, development agencies and working knowledge of national government. You will have knowledge of key external issues, regional development priorities and of regulatory frameworks. Experience working in a regulated industry would be advantageous. Full, valid driving licence is essential.
Thames Water information and salary details
This role is based in Reading. We are offering a salary of between £34,000 and £46,000, depending on skills and experience.
