The job is a key leadership position in the UK Retail Bank Strategy and M&A team. The job holder provides direction and coaching to other team members, maintains the integrity of the team on specific projects and ensures the overall profile of the team is consistently high with key stakeholders Responsible and accountable (with the Head of Strategy and M&A) for the coordination of UK Retail Bank M&A activities, including the proactive identification of target organisations, informal and formal due diligence processes and coordination of activities with Barclays Corporate Development Responsible and accountable for the direction, facilitation and co-ordination of business wide strategy for UK Retail Banking; UKRB (in support of the strategic intent to become the best bank in the UK) Assist Executive Committee, (ExCo) and senior leadership teams in the identification, analysis and execution of strategic actions and projects that have a substantial impact on both short and medium term performance of the business Manage projects or workstreams that will deliver new or revised business and financial strategies for UKRB and have a positive impact on PBT
Key responsibilities and activities will include:
Strategicdirection and ExCo support (40% of time)
On behalf of UKRB ExCo drive and develop the medium term strategy, performance plan and associated strategic projects for UKRB. Target the identification of the next £1bn of incremental income / £1bn of cost saving to enable a step change in the performance of the business » Provide thought leadership on strategy for UKRB by keeping abreast of external / market trends and current industry thinking » Manage close liaison with GRB Strategy and Planning to ensure alignment of UKRB strategy with Group / GRB » Ensure alignment of short and medium term business plans to the longer term strategicdirection through effective working relationships with key MDs / business leaders and robust understanding / knowledge of the business » Identify new strategic business growth opportunities (organic, inorganic strategic partnerships etc..) and work as required to analyse these and plan for delivery with Group, Global Retail Bank and the business » Provide an internal consultancy service to the business, identifying and developing short to medium term opportunities to improve business performance e.g. drive income, reduce cost, increase productivity etc Work with the MDs and their teams to ensure the projects are executed and benefits delivered » Develop, manage and cultivate strong working relationships across UKRB ExCo and their respective leadership teams to effectively influence and shape future business direction » Provide ongoing insight and analysis in the form of presentations and reports to support the CEO of UKRB in their engagement with stakeholders such as the Group Board, Group CEO, Group ExCo, GRB CEO and key external industry bodies » Provide ad-hoc input to key Group events and reports e.g. Group annual results, Investor Days, AGM etc. » Provide leadership within the team, both in terms of project management and problem solving / insight generation. This will include both team activity management and external stakeholder management Merger and Acquisition analysis (20% of time) » Identify / lead teams in the identification of value creating deal opportunities for UKRB through pro-active scans of the market and reference 3rd party sources (consultancies, Investment Banks etc.) » Ensure that any deal proposal is logically aligned with the current strategy » Develop initial business profiles and case for deals coordinating input from relevant parts of UKRB and Group, and generate clear recommendations for UKRB ExCo » Work with BCD in delivery / support of due diligence of targets, and coordinate UKRB activities appropriately » Maintain an independent view of the transaction as a whole, and use this view to drive clarity on behalf of UKRB ExCo » Ensure smooth hand-off to integration / implementation teams post-transaction
