In 2008, the market became extremely competitive, with a number of new businesses entering the market, and marketing spend in the sector increasingly significantly. Role |
The CMO will be responsible for the management of all the company's marketing efforts, developing a coherent strategy to present Confused to the consumer. Offering the opportunity to work in a marketing-led organisation with one of the UK's most recognised brands, this role will be highly commercial. Key responsibilities will be to: - Devise and implement a marketing strategy and provide strong leadership to the marketing function, ensuring effective execution across all areas of the function: brand, above and below the line advertising, search and online marketing, direct marketing and CRM, and PR - Lead the development of the business from a direct marketing approach to a more brand-focussed strategy, particularly with regard to above the line activity - Continue to develop effective CRM methodologies - Ensure that marketing, product development and the B2B partnership teams work closely in developing and launching new products and services, leveraging the existing (web address removed) brand and meeting the demands of existing and prospective customers - Manage a £58m marketing budget, determining the marketing mix and prioritising budget and resource allocation - Manage agency relationships and work closely with agencies to deliver effective and measurable ROI The CMO may also take on additional responsibility for the Product function, depending on the skills and experience of the individual: - Lead the team to set clear growth targets and devise strategies for delivering these targets - Support the heads of function to develop innovative and profitable product propositions |

Skills/ Experience |
Cultural and personality fit will be critical. Confused is a dynamic business that retains a strong entrepreneurial spirit and has a driven, but largely informal, culture. The successful candidate will have: - Leadership experience in a senior marketing position, either within a business division or a group marketing function - Experience of working across the full marketing mix in a blue-chip, consumer-focused organisation - A strategic and operational outlook, with the ability to set strategy and communicate a vision to the team and to deliver that strategy in a timely and effective manner - Strong appreciation of brand and the customer, with experience of managing brand strategy - The ability to combine an innovative marketing approach with sound commercial ideas which can be well executed - First rate leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and enthuse others - The ability to work in a smaller, entrepreneurial organisation with relatively little hierarchy - Strong intellect with a high level of commercial and financial acumen - Good academic background, ideally with an MBA and/or consulting experience |
