Job Description

Well known London Museum - 6 Months Maternity Cover

Your role in the team will be to research and develop to fruition, new business fundraising opportunities.
 
Principal Accountabilities
 
Fundraising & Strategy
 
-Income development. Be responsible for the new business arm of the Museum's development strategy and deliver income targets for fundraising projects.
 
-Research & relationship cultivation - corporate sector. Research companies who have a good reason to support the Museum and cultivate new relationships.

-Research a portfolio of trusts and foundations who could potentially support Museum development campaigns. Working closely with Museum colleagues, research and make successful applications for support within this sector.  
 
-Work with the Marketing and Development team to develop a range of opportunities and events to strengthen existing sponsor/donor relationships.
 
-Proposals & contractual negotiation. Write formal sponsorship proposals, agreeing sponsor/donor involvement in Museum content or programme with stakeholders and colleagues in the Museum.  
 
-Reporting, briefing and monitoring. Prepare regular reports on fundraising progress and strategy. Keep senior colleagues and the Museum Board informed.
 
-Printed communication. Manage the design and production of a range of communication materials as required to deliver the development strategy.

 
Relationship management 
 
-Agree relationship objectives with each sponsor/donor from the start of the contractual relationship. Work with the Stakeholder Relations Manager to evaluate the relationship with the sponsor at key agreed milestones.  
 
-Ensure the Museum's website is promptly updated with agreed sponsor accreditation and information.
 
-Research new leads, and work closely with the Development Assistant to build and maintain an accurate development and stakeholder database to facilitate your work, and that of others. 
 
Staff
 
The post holder will report to the Head of Marketing & Development, will work in close partnership with colleagues across the Marketing & Development team and may be required to line manage the Development Officer and volunteers.

Skills

- Excellent communication skills. Must present well in a range of situations, incl.; formal presentations, one-to-one meetings with high profile stakeholders and sponsors, written proposals, promotional copywriting (essential).
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and manage time effectively to meet deadlines (essential).   
- Meticulous attention to detail, editing and proof reading skills.
- Willing to work evenings and weekend as the work programme requires. (essential)
- Enthusiasm for the Museum and its ambition.  (essential)  

Knowledge

- Computer literate: a well know fundraising database, Word, Excel, Powerpoint (essential).
- An understanding of the design, print and production process.
- Knowledge of the opportunities available for arts and culture fundraisers, and an understanding of where the museum can find its niche within a competitive market (essential).
- Working knowledge of fundraising strategy and practise (essential). 
- Understanding of Budgetary control and management.  


Experience

- Strong and proven experience of working in a new business fundraising role and a proven record of successful income generation (essential).
- Experience of liaison with corporate and political stakeholders at senior level (essential).
- Experience of development budget planning, management and control (essential).
- Experience of managing others; your own direct report/s, consultants, volunteers and others, for whom you do not have line management responsibility.
- Some experience of event management.
