The Company
The Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) has been established to spearhead the UK response to the challenges of reducing green house emissions and securing energy supply, by developing a focused portfolio of commercially viable, sustainable energy technologies. A public/private partnership, the ETI is backed by companies including BP, Caterpillar, EDF Energy, E.ON, Rolls-Royce and Shell. Its target is to secure up to 11 private sector investors, each contributing £5million per year for 10 years, with the UK Government matching these investments to create a potential £1 billion investment fund for new energy technologies. The public sector funders are the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), with additional funding from the Department for Transport.
The Role
The newly created role of Communications Executive will play a key role in the development of the ETI by creating publicity materials and supporting systems that enable the ETI to have a strong, clear and sustained public profile.
Core accountabilities include:
*Media relations - developing and maintaining relationships with appropriate key media contacts with a view to securing a positive profile of ETI and its activities; respond to press enquiries and briefing the press as required
*Government relations - supporting Ministerial information requests and preparing briefing papers for appearances before relevant parliamentary committees
*Website management – managing the ETI’s website and ensuring its content is up-to-date, accurate, attractive and relevant and useful to staff and customers
*Literature production – producing materials to explain the ETI’s activities overall, as well as specific materials to support the promotion of ETI’s ongoing Research and Technology Programmes
*Event management – developing ETI’s own programme of events and arranging participation in relevant industry/market sector events
*Partner involvement and information – create and manage regular contacts with partners with the aim of furthering the aims of the ETI and assist in the identification and targeting of new partners
*Stakeholder management – manage the stakeholder database ensuring engagement with relevant and appropriate people and organisations
The role requires someone with broad experience across all communications disciplines and the ideal candidate should be able to build relationships at all levels both with Senior Executives within the ETI and externally. Ideally you will have experience in the communications department of a large corporate organisation involved in high profile sectors, or of a major campaigning organisation. Evidence of managing PR, press enquiries and event management are also necessary. Likely to be of graduate calibre, and ideally with professional marketing or PR qualifications.
Benefits
A base salary of circa £35,000 is envisaged for candidates. This depends on the skills and experience the successful candidate would bring to the role. The package will include the following:
*Membership of ETI Defined Contribution pension scheme (maximum Company contribution 10%)
*Life Assurance scheme of 4 x base salary
*Benefits allowance
*28 days annual leave plus statutory bank and public holidays.
