Job Description:
The Yahoo! Advertising Products Group is looking for a seasoned European Director of Product Marketing who will be responsible for defining and delivering a holistic product marketing strategy that combines a deep understanding of the online advertising industry, advertiser needs and problems, and the landscape for a set of competing products in our European markets. This individual must possess a strong product understanding as well as a mastery of marketing fundamentals in order to successfully champion the needs of the advertising community in Europe to define a differentiated product position and strategies to deliver against that position.
Your inbound responsibilities will include market and user segmentation for our European markets, identification and prioritization of the most valuable problems we can solve for advertisers and agencies, and working closely with product management and engineering to pick the right solutions to address target problems. Your outbound and business responsibilities will include product positioning, value proposition definition, messaging, competitive intelligence, and defining and tracking product and business success metrics.
This position requires an individual that can work closely and collaboratively with a cross-functional team that includes sales, account management, product management, engineering leaders, consumer and advertiser research, marketing, public relations, and finance.
Direct Responsibilities:
Provide European region input into the definition of global and regional advertiser customer segments, buyer personas, and needs
Identify and prioritize the problems which Yahoo! should address based on a market-driven understanding of segment needs
Develop business cases for the most important opportunities. Work with finance to evaluate larger opportunities. Work with business development, product management, and engineering on build/buy/partner decisions
Ensure that all product managers and engineers understand whom theyre building for and why
Work closely with product management and engineering to manage a portfolio of solutions to address target problems
Develop portfolio, product, and release-specific positioning, value proposition, and messaging
Establish sustainable, differentiated, ownable product positioning and value propositions that support corporate brand positioning
Maintain an up to date understanding of competitive strategy and the needs implied by competitor actions
Define and track product portfolio, product, and release-specific business success metrics
Work closely with teams in the European region - sales, account management, b2b marketing, PR, and partner management teams - to ensure they deeply understand the value of individual releases, products, and the entire portfolio for each segment to whom they are communicating
Experience, Qualifications & Skills
Extensive business experience, with in-depth product marketing experience with business-to-business Internet products or services
Previous product management experience a plus
A mix of technical and marketing or business experience a plus
Demonstrated track record of success and career advancement
Demonstrated ability to quickly build strong relationships across large organizations
Track record of influencing the product development process through customer insights
Ability to discern user needs and associated problems through direct customer interaction as input to product definition, product portfolio management, and marketing strategy
Strong analytical skills and passion for interpreting and translating quantitative and qualitative data into customer insights
Ability to understand and interpret a complex competitive landscape
Ability to effectively discern which projects will deliver the greatest impact among a myriad of potential opportunities
Proven success in a fast-paced, matrixed work environment. Ability to thrive in a dynamic, rapidly changing and highly competitive industry.
Direct experience launching web-based products or services and managing product marketing strategy for those products
Excellent organizational, presentation and writing skills and ability to successfully interact across functions at all levels of an organization and with customers
