Job Description
The group are a medium-sized marketing communications holding company, with agencies providing services across 5 professional disciplines: advertising, PR, marketing, research and design. They are looking to appoint a Group New Business Development Manager to help co-ordinate and facilitate new business across the Group - working with the Group Development Director - This is a rare opportunity to help shape the overall new business strategy of each individual agency and get involved at every level of the business development and agency marketing process.
Responsibilities
Broadly, the responsibilities of the New Business Manager would focus on the following areas:
1. Helping shape the overall new business strategy of each individual agency (working with the Group Development Director)
2. Overseeing/ monitoring the effectiveness of on-going new business development efforts of the individual agencies
3. Ensuring agencies have appropriate strategy in place for making themselves famous
4. Assisting on selected major pitches with individual agencies (or on multi-agency pitches)
5. Developing an appropriate Group level marketing strategy
6. Identifying potential strategic clients whom might be approached either by an individual agency or with a team multi-agency offering
Type of candidate
The ideal candidate will be a high potential individual with a strong interest in the marketing communications sector.
They could already be working in an agency, in either a new business or account management role, or have 2-5 years work experience outside the sector (e.g., at a management consultancy) and be looking to build a career in advertising/ marketing.
The key attraction for such an individual is that this role will give them exposure both to a broad range of marcomms disciplines and access to senior level staff within the agency and at a Group level. Moreover, if they prove successful in this role, at the end of 1-2 year period, they are likely to have a range of opportunities to move into a senior level position within one of our agencies.
In terms of core skills, the successful candidate would likely combine the following qualities:
Relationship Building - successful in building relationships with senior management at agency and Group level and ability to command the respect of business development staff
Self-starter - to some extent, the individual will have to help set their own agenda and will have to work relatively independently at times
Strategic thinker - one of the key skills will be the ability to inject some strategic thinking both into individual pitches and an agencys overall approach to business development
Organised - one of the key elements of the role is adding a much more rigorous process to existing business development efforts, and thus it will be critical that the Business Development Manager approach mirrors this
Ambitious - finally, the successful candidate should also show a clear ambition and drive, both to advance personally and to contribute to the success of the overall group turnaround
Remuneration
While they can be relatively flexible and the precise terms offered to any individual would depend on the nature of their experience, our in-going expectation is that their package would be structured as follows:
Base salary: competitive base salary
Annual incentive: bonus of up to 50% of base salary, linked to the achievement of - defined new business targets (target pay-out likely to be 25% of salary)
