My Client a Government Agency is looking to recruit a Multi-Media Journalist to work on a short-term project up for up to 4 months.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications the Multi Media Journalist will build relationships and work closely on a day to day basis with external media in order to maintain and enhance the organisations reputation. The Multi-Media Journalist will sell-in to appropriate media appropriate good examples of success stories across a variety of multi media platforms.
Job Details
The key to this role is to understand the changing needs of the media including: media access, the news agenda, the importance of deadlines, what a story is, why a press release needs to inspire and excite, the strength and role of video, photos, mobile phone footage, user-generated content, audio and blogs.
This will include;
- Build excellent and positive working relationships with journalists in the international, national, specialist, regional and local media (TV, radio, print and electronic), to produce prominent and favourable coverage of the organisations corporate priorities and key messages.
- Develop and implement realistic and effective media strategies for key aspects of the organisations work, identifying opportunities for conveying their messages by understanding and anticipating the media agenda.
- Build and maintain a media contact database with key journalists ensuring that all details are regularly updated. Regularly contact journalists either by telephone or face to face to develop and maintain an active network of key journalists.
- Pro-actively seek out stories that connect directly to corporate priorities, to produce excellent copy and images that are sold into target media.
- Proactively respond swiftly and reliably to unanticipated media interest, translating the organisations corporate priorities and key messages into statements and responses
- Generate creative ideas that translate into innovative approaches of writing-up case studies and stories, news, policy changes, announcements in an engaging way encompassing the media's perspective and priorities.
- Deliver complex statements and messages in a simple clear and informative way to translate the organisation's corporate priorities and key messages in ways that reach a diverse range of audiences by using written, audio, and video production techniques.
- Develop a reach beyond traditional media to include universities, business, organisations, the community and voluntary sector, central and local government, and other partners to project a positive message about the organisation's objectives and activities.
Skills and Experience needed;
- Demonstrable excellent professional journalism skills in writing, subbing, and planning media activity of all kinds.
- An engaging, intellectually robust and confident manner
- Ability to demonstrate a creative and original approach to journalism that is shown by producing inspired media plans.
- A demonstrable strong interest in current affairs.
- Demonstrable ability to devise and write production schedules and outlines for audio and video reports; to direct and work with camera and technical teams/crews; to write 'blogs' and other 'new media' documents.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with national and regional media, on the phone, by e-mail and in face to face meetings
- Proven IT skills including management content programmes
- Confidence to support others in their written work, advising on publications materials and media approaches
- Proven experience in editing material including re-cutting and re-editing material for different sources and outlets in an appropriate way.
