Category Specialist (Procurement)
We are looking for a Procurement Category Specialist to join our NPD Procurement team. This is genuinely an exciting part of the business working closely with R&D, New Product Development and Procurement Category Buyers to deliver new products/brands for the business.
Unlike many Procurement or Category roles you will not be looking after one Category, you will be working on new innovations whereby you will have the responsibility for procuring direct materials, placing contracts and ensuring ingredients and packaging arrive on time and in the right format for launch. As this role will work in project cycles the work is varied; you could be searching for new suppliers, flagging & managing risks, negotiating pricing or contract terms, working through different scenarios & options with stakeholders and so experience of project management or ability to project manage is a key advantage. Like many new initiatives, some projects will not launch or will be delayed so resilience, perseverance and the ability to see the bigger picture are essential qualities. Once launched you will eventually hand off to a business as usual Category Management team. It’s worth noting that there are usual category elements to the role such as dealing with suppliers, negotiation, RFI’s etc.
We are a forward-thinking procurement function which has spent time adding in the right processes and procedures to work with simplicity in mind. The procurement function has moved from ‘price’ led mindset to a ‘value’ led mindset. Relationship Management, dealing with ambiguity, influencing, building trust have all been called out as being successful in this role.
