Job Title: Communications Assistant

The technology will revolutionise the world's energy production - it will be possible to produce more energy, more cheaply and with fewer harmful side effects (e.g. with no long term nuclear waste or carbon emissions).

They aim to accelerate the development of fusion energy by combining two emerging technologies - spherical tokamaks and high-temperature superconductors. The company's innovation has been featured on Channel 4 news, BBC News Click and Reuters news channel and they received a Technology Pioneer Award at the World Economic Forum on 2016.

The Role:

Are you proactive, creative and seeking a new challenge, then this could be the role for you. They are looking to recruit a part-time Communications Assistant to assist with the communications output of the Company. They will have responsibility for working alongside their Communications Consultant on social media and website updates, help with videos, articles and presentations. There is a possibility of education work depending on experience and demand. A wide variety of tasks are necessary to keep the internal and external communications running smoothly, upholding the Company's image.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In a world where online presence is taken more seriously than ever before, the candidate will be responsible for the content and delivery for:
    • LinkedIn
    • Instagram
    • Twitter
    • YouTube (help with making videos, uploading and monitoring comments)
  • Responsible for the presentation of the Company's website ensuring:
    • The site is kept up to date with latest company developments and progress
    • Website always looks clean, professional and impressive and is easily navigated
    • Update Press, News and Events sections on website with videos, news and any recent press coverage
    • Update the recruitment section if necessary (in collaboration with HR and IT) Working on producing video content, articles, press releases and presentations where appropriate
  • Preparing and updating company marketing materials (flyers, brochures, banners, PowerPoint), in collaboration with designers, in support of conferences and investor meetings
  • Interfacing with press, journalists and PR firms
  • Keeping up to date with publications and press coverage, including general fusion news
  • There is an option that the candidate could be involved in the planning of educational activities and applying for grants for delivery

Key Requirements:


  • Education to degree level
  • Science or Engineering background is preferred
  • Proficient in use of social media platforms and familiar with WordPress blogs or websites
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint
  • Communication experience, particularly in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Good relationship building and influencing skills to obtain willing support from the Company for activities within this role
  • Practical problem-solving skills to help sort out situations quickly, effectively and where possible, independently
  • Flexibility and willingness to multi-task and help others
  • Good team player


  • Well informed and up to date about a wide range of the Company's activities to enable the candidate to answer straightforward questions and to know who would be able to help further if needed
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines
