The Royal Armouries has been witness to remarkable historical events and is guardian of the UK’s national collection of arms and armour, including some objects which have transformed the world as we know it. Our unique collection is supported by an expert knowledge base, authoritative leaders in the field of arms and armour, offering access to expertise on matters as diverse as military and political history as well as art, curatorship and conservation.

As history’s expert witness, the Royal Armouries aims to inspire people to discover and understand how many of the most compelling narratives of human endeavour and experience have been, and continue to be, shaped by arms and armour.

We are looking for a skilled and highly organized communications professional to play a key role within our Marketing and Communications team. This post is all about generating awareness of the Royal Armouries, raising our profile, driving footfall and guarding and promoting our brand. With a focus on our exciting public programme, encompassing events and exhibitions, as well as news, research and more, this role is critical to the smooth and efficient running of the Marketing & Communications team.

With special responsibility for social media and digital marketing projects you will need to be a highly skilled, responsive digital communications professional and also hold a relevant degree and/or experience in marketing. Proven experience of heritage sector/visitor attractions would be an advantage.

You must have strong analytical skills and be an excellent communicator who is able to understand and implement market research insights into the museum’s communication and marketing activities. The Communications Officer will also take a brand guardian role over digital and social media communications for our other sites at the Tower of London and Fort Nelson, Hampshire, ensuring these are in line and supportive of the Royal Armouries brand.

Working with Head of Marketing and Communications, you will create excellent press and PR campaigns, generating releases, organising and overseeing press calls and associated communications and generating additional content where required. As well as managing inbound filming requests, you will proactively seek out opportunities, positioning the Royal Armouries as the partner of choice for relevant productions, and be actively involved in negotiation with broadcast companies, as well as supervising filming within the museum.

You will contribute to supporting strategic decision making in digital marketing campaigns, particularly around channels and messaging, and will assist in the design and delivery of internal communications strategy.

The post-holder will be based in Leeds but may work across all three of the museum’s sites.

Based in Royal Armouries Leeds, This is a full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Weekend and bank holiday working will also be required on occasion.
