Why Join the Advanced Analytics and Data StrategyTeam?
Understanding customer data is a key pillar of MoneySuperMarket Group’s strategy leading to an extensive investment in people and capabilities within our Group Data function. We are continually striving to identify new and unique opportunities to capitalise on our extensive data asset.
The advanced analytics and data strategy team’s role centres on data science skills: applying machine learning and Natural Language Processing to enable personalisation, and data-driven experimentation to optimise marketing.
The Head of Data Strategy and Advanced Analytics is also responsible for ensuring all Group Data analysts and Customer Scientists have the infrastructure and tools to leverage data; and define best practise for using the infrastructure to help the business achieve its goals.
We’re primarily based in our London West-End office which offers a great working environment and a vibrant social scene.
Why Our Role?
Far more than coders, MoneySuperMarket Data Engineers are expected to influence the direction of the company through their technical expertise.
We embrace a culture of continuous innovation in how we use data, from analytical techniques through to application. As part of the continuous improvement process, we are re-platforming our data analytics and data science stack to Google Cloud Platform (GCP) from AWS and legacy systems.
This role is critical to ensuring the move to the new platform is successful and our use of it continuously optimised afterwards.
What will you be doing?
In this hands-on role you will apply your technical savvy and:
Work pro-actively with the Head of Data Strategy and Advanced Analytics, with support from Customer Scientists, other data engineers and technology teams to deliver projects that will:
Re-design our company’s data architecture to support our next generation of products and data initiatives by choosing optimal solutions.
Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources including our exiting AWS platform.
Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture in GCP.
Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
Contribute to the development of demonstrable Proofs of Concept for business use-cases and trialling of new GCP services.
Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems.
Work closely with stakeholders, building relationships throughout the business.
Work closely with other data engineers, Customer Scientists, analysts and technologists to share knowledge, evaluate opportunities and pro-actively recommend improvements in architecture, pipelines, data models, tools and processes.
What do you need to excel in this role?
Ideally, the person in this role will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:
Strong working knowledge of Python, SQL and Linux/Unix. Java advantageous.
Familiar with data modelling, relational databases, and at least one noSQL database.
Experience using at least one distributed computing framework (e.g. Hadoop/Spark) or distributed SQL query engine (e.g. BigQuery, Presto/Athena, Impala, Drill).
Meaningful experience of building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets in the cloud, ideally AWS or Google Cloud Platform
Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Luigi, Airflow, etc.
Proficiency with code revision tools (ideally git) and continuous integration (ideally Jenkins).
Very good knowledge of testing and quality assurance processes
Awareness of data security and privacy requirements
Experience of working with data science teams and architecting solutions for them to do their jobs, including ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, precise, and actionable manner.
A keen interest in big data, cloud computing, web stacks and excitement for the best practice, methodologies and tools that help us build the best price comparison site and customer experience.
Educated to degree level, preferably post-graduate, within a computer science, information technology, mathematical or similar discipline.
MoneySuperMarket Data Engineers have the opportunity to work with one of the largest customer databases in Europe, holding records for over 24 million unique customers.
You’ll learn and grow your capabilities by working with the latest technology and services from Google.
Training, sharing knowledge and best practice are integral to our team ethos. Recent internal development has included introduction to Spark, Git and Github version control, website engineering, effective report writing, best practice Data Visualisation and R programming.
You’ll be supported by an experienced management team with many years’ experience working for global leaders in data analytics.
