In one of the leading legal firms in the world, this is a rare and very interesting opportunity for a highly talented external communications specialist to join a team of talented people and work across a broad remit.
Reporting to the Global Head of Communications and overseeing a four person team, this is a strategic role in which the role holder will work proactively to position the firm's partners as authoritative sources for journalists on areas of importance to the firm and also to position thought leadership, which will involve commissioning research with media in mind and developing that to complement a wider marketing effort, or using existing research to deliver effective media outcomes. The Head of Global External Communications will manage opportunities for profile raising, prioritising opportunities to highlight the firm's strategy and growth areas, and must prepare for and reactively or proactively address stories where the firm's position needs to be carefully handled with the media, which may involve firm-wide issues, individual matters or client relationships, and occasionally advising clients on their approach. You will have day to day responsibility for press office management including outbound disclosures and inbound inquiries and disseminating information about media interest and resulting press coverage to relevant colleagues. The successful applicant will need to ensure that media activity has a strong digital and social component, managing brand "listening" in social channels and measuring media impact. Coaching, training and advising on media activity and performance will represent an important element of the role and you will also oversee the process for submissions to legal directories.
This is a highly successful and busy environment and you will therefore require a strong academic record or equivalent allied to previous experience working as a media relations leader in a global, matrixed organisation to include proven experience of communications planning and strategy development, issues management and managing agency relationships. In addition, the Head of Global External Communications will need to be familiar with internal communications disciplines, possess outstanding project management skills and the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and will be a motivating leader, adept at coaching creative talent and junior colleagues.
