Job Introduction

We’re looking for an Intermediary Relationship Manager (IRM) to build relationships with mortgage brokers and to deliver an exceptional customer experience. It sounds easy enough, but this role really does require someone with a particular set of skills. It’s a meaty role that will be an exciting challenge for the right person, but it’s certainly not for the faint hearted.

The Yorkshire/East Midlands region covers an area from York to Nottingham to Lincoln including Wakefield, Sheffield & Doncaster.

Main Responsibilities

As an Intermediary Relationship Manager you’ll be travelling throughout the region to provide expert advice to brokers who are looking for the best mortgage for their clients. There’s a lot of competition, so it will be up to you convince them that Skipton is the clear choice above other lenders where our products meet the needs of their customers.

To succeed, you’ll need extensive experience of mortgage lending and relevant industry knowledge to ensure you’re able to offer an expert, personalised service. You’ll also work closely with colleagues in other departments and specifically with our support team who provide support on the phone, through email or web chat.

As a new IRM you’ll need to build meaningful relationships with the brokers you meet and get a genuine understanding of their needs. On a typical day you’ll have three or four meetings, and in any one meeting there might be upwards of 20 to 30 people.

Ideal Candidate

First and foremost you’ll need a genuine respect for brokers and their clients and a passion for providing them with a service that’s second to none. Your charisma, swagger, gravitas – call it what you will – will only work if it’s balanced with humility and underpinned by Skipton’s required behaviours, which put customers at the heart of everything we do.

You’ll need to be confident, assertive and thrive on lively debate, with the ability to get your point across. You’ll also need to be resilient and thick skinned with an innate ability to influence and persuade.

The above should contribute to you being a strong relationship builder and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels coupled with a passion for delivering excellent customer service.

Up to date knowledge of financial services and mortgage expertise is important, but we’re not necessarily looking for an experienced IRM. A commercial background and CeMap or equivalent qualification would be a bonus, along with experience of managing your own appointments and time.
