Job Title:             Marketing Copywriter
Location:             Post Covid – will need to be able to commute to Maidstone, Kent
Salary:                 £20k - £23k
Benefits:             Bonus, pension, healthcare

What do you do with a B.A. in English?
What is my life going to be?
4 years of college,
And plenty of knowledge,
Have earned me this useless degree!

I can't pay the bills yet,
'Cause I have no skills yet,
The world is a big scary place!

But somehow I can't shake,
The feeling I might make,
A difference to the human race!

[Kate Monster] – “Don't be so downhearted Brian, I heard there’s this fantastic opportunity going in Maidstone with a big firm who have proper family values at their core. They're looking for someone just like you!”

[Brian] – “Really? But they’re not going to be interested in little ‘ol me. Are they?

[Kate} – “Didn’t you do those couple of internships helping a couple of firms pull together some marketing collateral? Sorting out their brochures and some sales materials. You even wrote a few blogs for them, didn’t you?

[Brian} – “I  did, but they were just a couple of projects to get some experience under my belt. That’s not going to be enough for them surely?”

[Kate] – “It might Brian. What have you got to lose? After all, it’s what you love doing, and will really play to your creative strengths. I’ve also heard they’ve been treating the folks who work there really well during all this crazy Covid stuff. So it could be a brilliant opportunity for you.”

[Brian] – “Okay Kate, I’ll give it a try.

Avenue Q!

Now the serious stuff - The role itself.

You’ll be joining a team of 17 marketers who to date, have been creating their own copy to support everything from website, point of sale collateral, brochures, TV and radio scripts. Basically, anything the existing customer and potential customer might see/receive. So that’s 17 people all trying to imitate each other’s approach, but as you can imagine, results in a degree of inconsistency.

That’s why they need you, and your relentless enthusiasm and creativity, and clear passion for the English language.

To create that consistent tone of voice, no matter the channel of communication with the customer. Be it promotional marketing efforts instore, standardizing email communications, website copy, or even things like creating scripts for Radio or TV adverts. So there’s going to be tons of variety to get your teeth into.

Their product has a complexity about it since its centred on technology. It’s your job to use words to make this simple and clear but accurate in what you’re explaining. That it all pulls together to create a consistency to their tone of voice. That being one of professional and friendly, but not corporate. Expert in tone and reassures customers at every stage.

You’ll be working into a head of dept. who’s absolutely fantastic. A real people person who’s brilliant in how they develop and nurture talent in people. Whilst also consistently delivering amazing business results, even in challenging circumstances.

So why not be like Brian? If you’ve got that BA in English just sitting their going to waste and a love for written word you want to put to professional use. Why not apply to this role to find out more?

Key Experience

  • Commercial experience in copywriting, notably for marketing purposes, will be a real plus and help you stand out, but a BA in English Language will likely be a minimum
  • Your CV has got to be able to get you across properly. Articulating your experience effectively and ‘sell you’. Given this role is all about using the written word well. If you can’t demonstrate the ability to do that about the subject you know best in the world – You - you’re going to really struggle with this role
  • Energy, passion and enthusiasm for the written word – demonstrate that in some of the things you’ve done before
  • Why not point out any grammatical, spelling or other errors I’ve made in this  advert to demonstrate your amazing attention to detail?
