The Client:

Our Client are the lead body for Scotland's historic environment; a charity dedicated to the advancement of heritage, culture, education and environmental protection. They are at the forefront of researching and understanding the historic environment, and addressing the impact of climate change on its future. They investigate and record architectural and archaeological sites and landscapes across Scotland and care for more than 300 properties of national importance. They have a People Strategy which will be an overarching strategy to which ensures they support and develop staff within the organisation.

The Role:

Marketing sits within the Business Development Team which also includes Sales, Membership/Customer Relationship Management, Retail and Catering. The core purpose of the team is to drive business to the 77 properties in care they operate as visitor attractions.

Business Development is one of seven teams which report to the Director of Commercial and Tourism (C&T). C&T is responsible for attracting 4million visitors to all attractions - which include Edinburgh, Stirling and Urquhart Castles - and generating around £36m in direct income for our client.

The Marketing team is responsible for managing all Commercial and Tourism related marketing campaigns, activity and marketing materials. The Marketing team consists of the Head of Sales and Marketing, the Marketing Manager and three Marketing Executives (of which this is one) and a Marketing Coordinator.

Key responsibilities, duties and objectives

  • To support the Marketing Manager and Head of Sales & Marketing in delivering the marketing strategy for Commercial & Tourism business and teams, the objectives of the corporate plan and the C&T directorate plan
  • To support the implementation and monitoring of campaigns designed to increase numbers and income at our events and historic sites, providing thorough evaluation and value for money
  • To work and network with partners such as EventScotland, VisitScotland and other tourism operators to the benefit of our client
  • To handle day to day liaison with our external marketing agencies which support our campaigns
  • Create and deliver innovative digital content across our visitor facing social media channels, and a programme of targeted e-communications across our client groups
  • To manage the production of marketing materials in support of other C&T teams

You will be required to demonstrate that you meet the requirements and qualifications as part of the selection process

Essential requirements: Marketing qualification at degree level and/or at least 2 years' experience in a marketing role

Desirable requirements: Experience/working knowledge of the tourism industry
