About the Role:

As Product Development Technician you will be based in the Central Laboratory facility located at the Head Office in Breakspear Park, Hemel Hempstead, and will report directly into the product development lab coordinator. You will be responsible for sample production of products in our GB Laboratory and will need to travel to our pilot plant in Beckton on occasion to support with production scale up and trials. These requests will come through the wider technical function and your direct line manager.

As a Product Development Technician you will work closely with the Product Development Lab Manager to:

-Prepare and analyse samples for new products, validations, trials and storage samples

-Maintaining the stock of laboratory consumables

-Maintaining all raw material libraries and ensuring libraries are up-to-date on costings and supplier info by working closely with procurement

-Maintain preparation and testing equipment in the GB Lab

-Booking samples with the micro and analyitical teams for analysis

-Ensure that the laboratory, storerooms and equipment are maintained to the appropriate hygiene and housekeeping standards

-Create and maintain Lab SOPs and ensure documentation alignment with the wider technical team

-Work with the innovation, product development and pilot plant teams to ensure efficient novel ingredient processing and scale up.

-Supporting our Capabilities Technologist in preparing and analysing stability samples.

-On occasion support our Pilot Plant team in product scale up and trials.

Key Responsibilities:

-Support the product development teams where necessary through:

-The preparation of development samples, trial samples, raw material approval samples, validation samples and storage trials

-The analysis of development samples, trial samples, raw material approval samples, validation samples and storage trials

-Operate and maintain complex and sensitive analytical instrumentation so that analysis can be completed on demand

-Ensure the laboratory is at world class standard at all times by maintaining:

-the laboratory, storerooms and equipment to the appropriate hygiene and housekeeping standards

-Sample and raw material disposal

-5S

-Build strong understanding of the NPD process at laboratory scale to be able to carry out:

-User training

-Troubleshoots

-Continuous improvement

-Recommendations on process capabilities

-Recommendations on novel ingredient processing and scale up

-Recommendations on processing changes that may support shelf life improvements.

-Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with the company standards, Quality Management systems and specifications and that good laboratory and hygiene practises are maintained. All elements of the role must be carried out in a safe manner and conform to health and safety requirements.

-Maintain strong relationships with analytical, micro and sensory labs

-Maintain strong relationships with the Ireland and French product development labs.

-Maintain strong relationships with the innovation, product development, implementation and pilot plant teams.

-Support other technical teams with analytical methods, training, calibration and validation

-Supporting the Capabilities technologist in booking in and preparing stability samples for testing.

-Supporting the Capabilities technologist in analysing and interpreting stability results.
