The Role: This role leads the overall commercial drive to develop new combination products and services in a competitive medical market. You will be managing development budgets, ensuring that developments are well defined and driven by commercial objectives.

Utilising market intelligence (via a Research and Market insight Manager) and a team that will contribute insight to your strategic vision as you lead the tactical implementation of the product development strategy, collaborating with associates across the business units with the aim of delivering commercially successful solutions. You will liaise between the R&D and Sales teams within the business, taking the lead of projects where required.

Fundamental to the role is driving for developments to be completed on time and within budget whilst ensuring the product being developed remains focussed on providing commercially attractive customer-centric solutions.

A key component of this role will be the ability to understand target audiences, understand local markets and what propositions will work best in each market and to each audience. Working very closely with the centralised marketing communications teams, editorial and other internal stakeholders, you will be tasked with creating best-in-class marketing strategies to acquire new business, increase customer value and engagement and improve retention.

Responsibilities for the position of Product Development Manager include:

  • Lead the implementation of the new product development strategy
  • Provide commercial leadership for OEM developments
  • Liaise with peers in Global Marketing and R&D to ensure potential opportunities for the wider business are considered and maximised. Be the OEM link between the OEM and R&D Technical developments, supporting R&D where appropriate in sub-contracted developments.
  • Oversee and manage the applicable tooling and development budget.
  • Generate proposals for the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and collaborate in the planning process.
  • Identify, define and communicate and champion the customer need in a way that enables stakeholders to understand the market opportunity and maximises the chance for R&D to generate relevant innovative solutions.
  • Provide sales and marketing communications support:
  • Where appropriate manage external vendors in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures.


  • 3 years+ experience of product management, with a record of delivering commercially successful developments on time and in budget, product innovation and lifecycle management
  • Previous experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical sector
  • Have the ability to engage senior stakeholders and teams, both internally and externally
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Data driven and analytical
  • Creative thinker
  • Adaptable

The Package for Product Development Manager:

  • Salary: £ Competitive
  • Commission of 10% of basic salary
