For most people, taking out a mortgage is one of life’s big milestones. For us, it’s about keeping the customer’s best interests at heart when we’re deciding whether to lend. That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for a confident decision maker to assess mortgage applications and make informed lending decisions based on a customer’s circumstances and our affordability model.
You might start the day by doing a credit search, checking a bank statement or answering a customer query over the phone. You’ll also be looking through applications and weighing them up against our lending policy to make sure they meet our criteria.
The applications will be varied and interesting and we’ll make sure you’re fully trained to deal with anything that comes your way, from shared ownership cases through to people buying houses on their own. It’s a full-on role with service levels to meet, so be prepared to have people snapping at your heels for progress reports and watching you closely to ensure those service levels are met.
It’s great when you can say yes, but sometimes you’ll have to turn people down when they apply for a mortgage. Being able to adapt your communication style to different circumstances and stick to your guns once you’ve made a decision will be key.
This role would be brilliant for someone who’s always ‘on it’ (and you will need to be on it!), because it’s fast-paced and never dull. Definitely not the sort of job where you can sit back and take it easy.
